Free film "The Arctic: Our Last Great Wilderness," hosted by Arctic Defense Campaign

Date/Time
11/19/2025
6:00 PM - 7:30 PM Central
Event Description
Learn about the beautiful Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and how you can get involved to help protect this area from oil and gas drilling now and for the future! The film will be followed by a speaker panel featuring a member of the Gwich'in Tribe, Tonya Garnett.

This event features the amazing, family-friendly, 45-minute film, The Arctic, Our Last Great Wilderness, in which National Geographic photographer Florian Schulz captures the 19.6 million acres of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Meet the polar bears, caribou, musk oxen, wolves, golden eagles, and people who call this area home! Experience the adventure of the Arctic and learn why this remarkable land deserves our protection!

The Arctic Defense Campaign is a coalition of environmental, wildlife, and native Alaskan communities working to enlist the support of Houston businesses, organizations, and local leaders to urge decision-makers to keep harmful drilling and industrialization out of this culturally and ecologically valuable public land reserve.

The Arctic Refuge is nearly 20 million acres of America's wildest public lands, providing critical habitat for iconic wildlife, sustaining Indigenous communities, and offering landscapes beloved by hunters, anglers, and recreators alike. The Coastal Plain, "the biological heart of the Refuge”, is home to threatened polar bears, caribou, and nearly 200 species of migratory birds. Meanwhile, drilling here is risky, costly, and deeply unpopular; many companies and banks have already walked away. We believe the harms of industrialization in the Arctic Refuge far outweigh any profits.
