Date/Time
3/21/2026
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM Central
Event Description
This class covers ALL the food waste options from the who, what, when, where and how
of backyard composting to food waste drop off options and curbside pickup. Food
waste makes up approximately ¼ of landfilled household waste. $5 residents, $20 non-
residents.

You may register in person at the West University Place Recreation Center or online at the City’s website www.westutx.gov. From the website go
to Services tab, choose Parks and Recreation, then select Register at the boom. Click on
Classes, Camps and Activities. (Registering online requires an account which may take 3-5
business days to create.)

Research has shown that 80% of Americans feel that recycling is worth the effort, but over half
of household recyclables end up in the trash, NOT in the recycling bin. Research has also
revealed that about half of households are not confident in what can actually go in their
recycling bin. These three classes give you an opportunity to get clarification on what does and
does not belong in your recycling bin and the many options you have to recycle and compost
beyond curbside. Want clarity on the recyclability of an item? Bring it to class. Applying what
you learn in these classes will dramatically reduce the amount of trash you put to the curb.
